The huge and much discussed Barsebäck nuclear power plant in southern Sweden is to have a new neighbour. The local utility is installing a 500 kW wind turbine built by a newcomer to the industry, Barsebäck Vind AB of Sweden. Co-developer of the project is landowner, Count Wethier Hamilton, who has a 50% share, as has Billeberga Kraft AB. Barsebäck's huge nuclear reactors north of Malmö are sited just across the narrow straits separating Sweden and Denmark. Ever since Denmark chose not to have nuclear plant on its soil, the existence of Barsebäck has caused considerable strain between the two countries, with repeated requests from Danish politicians for the immediate closure of Barsebäck. The Barsebäck nuclear plant has two reactors, so the new wind turbine is to be named Barsebäck 3.
