New planning tool for more wind farm proposals
1 September 1999
A new planning tool is being developed to help planners and developers agree on the potential cumulative effects of increasing numbers of wind farm proposals. Over 100 planning authorities, developers, statutory bodies and other organisations have already helped identify the issues to be addressed. The tool will consider cumulative effects on landscape, tourism and employment. It may also take into account effects on birds. Britain's Energy Technology Support Unit, on behalf of the government, commissioned Landscape Design Associates to develop the tool. LDA expects to produce a draft version soon which it will test in a workshop for stakeholders and on members of the public in a series of focus groups.
