Eickhoff makes gearboxes for 2.5 MW turbines

German company Eickhoff will begin series production of gearboxes for 2.5 MW wind turbines early next year at a new factory in Dresden, eastern Germany. Annual output will start at around 300 units for 750 MW of turbines, ramping up to 700 units of two difference types of gearbox, amounting to 1750 MW a year. Further expansion is possible, says the company's Antje Althoff. The company's main production facility, where it produces around 1000 gearboxes a year for turbines of various sizes, are in Bochum in Germany's Ruhr industrial region in North Rhine Westfalia.
