Danish utility offshoot, Elsam Projekt, has approached authorities in Algeciras, the largest city in the vicinity of Tarifa, with a proposal to develop wind power there. The group says it is targeting areas close to the windswept seaside town because of the excellent wind conditions. Elsam Projekt plans to study conditions over a 12 month period before committing itself, although permission to construct wind turbines there are already being sought at the highest level. Initial proposals are for a small cluster of powerful turbines in the 500 kW range to keep environmental impact to a minimum, says Elsam Projekt.
