A 600 kW grid connected demonstration wind turbine is to be erected by Ontario Hydro with NRCan, Toronto Hydro, and Pollution Probe at the Ontario Government's lake shore Ontario Place entertainment park near the Canadian National Exhibition, close to downtown Toronto. Such a turbine would expose a huge public audience in southern Ontario to wind power technology, Ontario Hydro's Brian Kelly told the CanWEA conference last month. A C$1 million loan for the turbine from the "Toronto Atmospheric Fund," a venture of Toronto City Council, was approved in late September. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 1997.
