New wind energy development company Your Energy Ltd has applied for consent for its first project at Spurness on Sanday in the Orkney Islands, north of Scotland. The four wind turbines will have a combined output of 8 MW and will be sited on the Gump of Spurness, near the Sanday ferry terminal. Your Energy was formed in 2001 by a team of mostly former TXU employees who had been involved in wind development. The company aims to develop wind projects with the support of local people and claims to have an "extensive" portfolio across the UK. Your Energy's Bill Richmond says the project has the full support of Sanday Community Council and he is hopeful it will secure consent. The company estimates that more than half a million pounds worth of contracts would be available for local and regional companies during the construction phase alone.
