Vast but untapped wind potential is near existing electricity transmission lines, says the US Energy Information Agency (EIA). The states of Texas, Kansas, Nebraska and North Dakota have the most land suitable for wind development near high voltage transmission lines, says a recent EIA report. Indeed as much as 240,000 square miles of land with wind development potential lie within ten miles of existing transmission facilities. Within 20 miles are 322,000 square miles of land suitable for wind development.
