A new investigation of the potential for further wind power development in Sweden has been launched by the Swedish environment ministry. An initial report is due in December which as well as assessing the potential on and offshore will also look at necessary grid improvements for taking more wind power in coastal areas and the northern mountains. A final report, due in June 1999, must determine criteria for location of wind plant. The ministry began the investigation because it says the interest in wind power development has increased because of European negotiations to reduce CO2 emissions.
