The wind sector was hardly noticed at Genera 2001, an energy trade fair in Madrid in late February, though renewables in general were heavily emphasised. Not a single wind turbine was on display -- compared to the nine on show at last year's big energy event, PowerExpo 2000 -- and Gamesa, Spain's largest wind turbine manufacturer, did not even have a stand. "It seems the exhibition focus just wasn't on wind," says Michael Stenderup of wind developer Terranova. The solar, co-generation, heat transfer and gas industries had the most overwhelming visual impact among the 127 exhibitors. Spanish turbine manufacturer MADE did have a satellite-linked presentation of Geswind, the first Internet linked wind plant management and control system to be launched in Spain.
