The first training session for wind and solar by the US-based Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Training Institute (REETI) drew some 25 people in Honduras in July, says REETI programme manager Chris Whiteley. Although organisers had hoped for as many as 50 participants, he said the smaller size was more conducive to learning. The 12 events scheduled by REETI -- mostly in Latin America -- also include a three day course on solar and wind for utilities in Costa Rica in September, a five day course for both technologies in Kingston, Jamaica, in mid September, another five day course in Argentina, tentatively set for mid October, and wind/solar courses next year in the Dominican Republic, Ecuador and Venezuela. REETI is a non-profit organisation that trains people in the private sector. Co-sponsors of the series include the Organization LatinAmericana de Energia, Union PanAmericana de Ingenieros, Latin Finance magazine, US AID, US Dept of Energy, Institute for Energy Conservation.
