The Swiss energy office, Bundesamt für Energie (BFE), is working on "selected initiatives" to raise annual wind generation to 100 GWh from the current 50 GWh by 2010. BFE will work with the country's cantons, communes and environmental organisations to develop a wind energy blueprint, Konzept Windenergie Schweiz. The plan will favour development of a limited number of large projects rather than many small ones. BFE is encouraged by a poll by Mediactif which reveals that over 67% of the population favours wind energy. "To be honest, the results were far better than we had expected, especially in areas where turbines are already installed," says BFE's Markus Geissmann. Three quarters of survey participants who live near existing wind plant at Mont-Crosin and Gütsch/Andermatt say the turbines had improved the landscape.
