Green trading company faces challenging market
1 May 1999
Austria's federal association for renewable energies, Bundesverband Erneuerbare Energie (BVEE), is setting up the country's first green power trading company. Ökostrom, plans to sell electricity from wind, photovoltaics, biomass and biogas, reports Ulfert Höhne of BVEE. The prices will be high, Höhne admits: wind will cost up to ATS 2.30/kWh (EUR 0.17/kWh), which includes production, transmission and an energy tax. Participants co-operating with BVEE to set up Ökostrom include a small Austrian utility that owns two wind turbines, a small hydro plant and some photovoltaic plants, reports Höhne.
