Energy and environment agency Novem is processing 80 applications for subsidy from potential wind plant developers for some NLG 75 million and 104 MW of installed capacity. The government has only NLG 35 million available for wind subsidies in 1994, but the difference between the amount available and that applied for is smaller than in previous years. In 1993 would-be-developers requested NLG 135 million, NLG 100 million more than the budget. Stricter project criteria this year have resulted in fewer applications. A project, for example, must have planning permission before it can be considered for the government's 35% investment subsidy.
