NEDO wind subsidies announced

The Japanese New Energy Development Organisation (NEDO) is granting ¥1.6 billion ($15.2 million) in subsidies to field tests for wind energy projects in 1999. That is ¥300 million more than last year. In total, 76 projects will receive NEDO money: 52 projects for wind measurement, which get a 100% subsidy; 17 projects for system design (50% subsidy); and seven projects for site construction (50% subsidy). NEDO also subsidises the capital cost of wind farm construction, but has not yet released details of 1999 recipients.
