Austin delegates benefit from city's live music reputation
1 June 2003
Aside from the more apparent reasons to hold a conference in Austin, which include 1095 MW of Texas wind, the nation's most successful renewables portfolio standard, and one of the US's green power programs, the city lends itself wholeheartedly to having a good time. For good reason, Austin bills itself as the Live Music Capital of the World, and that reputation helped transform the often stodgy conference receptions into outright parties. AWEA kicked off a string of receptions Sunday night, featuring a strolling Marimba band and live country music. TrueWind, PPM Energy, GE Wind Energy, among others followed, often commandeering entire night clubs. Cielo Windpower of Texas threw the wildest party -- outdoors with live music in sweltering heat, attended by hundreds of delegates.
