Italian utility Enel says it has reached a program agreement with the regional government of Piedmont for the development of renewables in the northern Italian region. The agreement foresees the construction of 150 MW of wind farms as well as 120 MW of photovoltaic capacity and the extension of hydro power generation in the region. The value of Enel's planned renewables investments in Piedmont, which has no commercial wind capacity, is about EUR 1 billion. Enel notes the region has taken steps to speed up the authorisation of renewable energy plants.
