The first of Zond's 750 kW variable speed turbines was installed on January 16 in Minnesota. It is one of the 143 turbines that are to make up the 107 MW Phase II of the Northern States Power (NSP) wind plant on Buffalo Ridge. The turbine, with a 48 metre diameter rotor, is also the first production turbine of the Z-750 series. Two Z-750 prototypes have been undergoing extensive testing in Tehachapi, the home base of manufacturer Zond Energy Systems, part of Enron Corp. All of the 143 turbines in Phase II are to be commissioned by the summer.
