New Zealand energy firm Mighty River is considering developing a huge 250 MW wind power station on property owned by Evergreen Forests on the Kaipara Harbour in the country's far north. If built, the power station will supply up to 2% of the country's electricity needs. Feasibility tests are being conducted and while the north is not known for the strong winds found in the south around Wellington, it does have the advantage of being close to the major city of Auckland, which has suffered severe power shortages in recent years.
