NEG Micon has been selected as the preferred turbine supplier for the proposed 50 MW Ausker Energies Tungketta Hill wind farm on South Australia's Eyre Peninsula. Final details for the $65-75 million project are yet to be completed due to ongoing negotiations with the South Australian government and the state's privately-owned transmission company, ElectraNet. Last month a government report was set to be issued regarding strategies for mitigating the high costs associated with extending transmission infrastructure 100 kilometres to the site. Currently the high cost of upgrading existing infrastructure threatens the viability of projects in the region, though a cost sharing solution where a number of wind developers would work together to upgrade infrastructure is a possibility to alleviate the prohibitive line rental costs of individual projects.
