Wind revenues to communities top six million euros

The construction of wind farms generates more than EUR 6.6 million a year in direct revenues for the 15 Portuguese districts where projects have been built, according to a survey by Portuguese monthly magazine Água & Ambiente. By June 2006, 1343.2 MW of wind capacity had been installed in the country, with Coimbra topping the list of districts with 215.1 MW, resulting in revenues of around EUR 1.1 million a year.
