Winergy expands facilities in Spain, Germany and US

Winergy, the wind subsidiary of drive systems manufacturer Flender of Bocholt, is to build a new manufacturing facility in Spain and expand its existing facilities in Germany and the US. In Spain, Winergy will open a facility at Arivalo, about 60 kilometres north of Madrid, with production starting in the next two years. At home in Germany, Winergy will expand its test rig facilities. It opened a new assembly works in Voerde/Friedrichsfeld near Bocholt a year ago. The American Winergy Drive Systems assembly works at Elgin in Illinois will also be expanded "in the near future," the company says. Created in May 2001 to bundle Flender's wind activities into one unit, Winergy provides drive systems (gear boxes, generators and inverters) for wind turbines and claims to have a 40% share of the market for these components. The company has about 300 employees.
