New wind lobby group formed to raise wind's profile

The Swedish Wind Power Investors and Developers Association (VIP) has joined forces with Svensk Energi -- a 180-200 member association of power producers, utilities, grid companies, traders and financial firms -- to raise the profile and competitiveness of wind power in Sweden and across the Nordic region. The new joint organisation will benefit both parties in forwarding the interests of wind power exploitation, says VIP's Matthias Rapp. "VIP has been gearing up for better official recognition for wind power as the government has taken it more and more seriously," he says. "In effect we will become the wind power arm of Svensk Energi." Bo Källstrand of Svensk Energi adds: "It is important for all the various parts of the electricity branch to make the most of the potential of wind power so that the role of wind power in the future electricity system is as good as possible."
