Small scale development in Devon

Two further wind energy developments advised by Farm Energy look set to be completed this year. Both are small scale -- the only type of project currently finding its way around the planning permit impasse in the UK. In November, councillors unanimously approved a single turbine at Swingdon Farm near Ashwater in Devon. Dairy farmer Robert Binns hopes to install a machine of up to 750 kW capacity on his site by mid May. It will be Devon's first commercial wind project. At Burgar Hill on Orkney a single 1.3 MW Nordex wind turbine is also due to be installed within the same time frame, says Farm Energy's Peter Crone. It will be the first Nordex machine in the UK and is a joint development between Farm Energy and Orkney Sustainable Energy Ltd.
