With so many wind turbines being shipped and so many projects built, keeping track of single megawatts is not easy. For the major markets, especially those where development is highly distributed, some of The Windicator totals this month are estimates based on our market knowledge. One thing is certain: the addition to world total of around 1000 MW so far this year is a conservative estimate. By the end of 2001 last year's record installation of well over 4000 MW is likely to be well beaten. By how much will largely depend on the ability of developers in the US to get all 2000 MW of the current planned projects up and running. World wind capacity will be well over 20,000 MW by end-2001.
