An export forum, wind energy research and development results, and offshore wind power were the three main areas of focus at the DEWEK 2000 conference, held June 7-8 in Wilhelmshaven. There were 64 oral presentations and 46 poster displays at the two day event, the fifth DEWEK organised by Deutsches Windenergie-Institut (DEWI). Highlights included a presentation on wind energy in Spain, especially Navarra, by Alberto De Miguel Ichaso of Energias Hidroelectricas de Navarra, the world's largest wind station operator. Reports on wind markets in Brazil, Pakistan, Hungary, India and South Africa also proved popular, along with a podium discussion between German and foreign experts on how wind energy can best proceed in developing countries. Some 450 attended the conference, with over 100 of these from 32 different countries. Forty companies, including turbine manufacturers, service companies and universities, exhibited at the event.
