Energy self-sufficiency in Kuzumaki aided by 21 MW wind plant

With a population of 8664, the Japanese town of Kuzumaki in Iwate Prefecture has become 80% self-sufficient in energy thanks in part to a 21 MW wind farm developed by J-Power, a wind developer previously owned by the government and utility sector but now listed on the Japanese stock exchange. The wind farm, which has been online for nearly a year, is made up of 12 Vestas 1.75 MW turbines. It has attracted visitors from other prefectures who want to study clean energy.
