Global wind market status

Global wind power capacity increased by a little over 15,000 MW in 2006, setting another annual installation record for the industry. The increase was 29% higher than in 2005 and takes the world total to more than 74,300 MW, a bit short of the 75,000 MW predicted. Just five years ago the world had 24,600 MW of wind plant, making the growth rate between then and now close to 25% and revealing that wind capacity has nearly doubled every three years. In this special annual issue we report on the status and prospects for all the major wind markets -- and many of the minor markets too.
