Wind turbine reliability is improving. The norm is for turbines to be available 98% of the time for supplying power to the grid, provided the wind is blowing. Anything below 95% is looking decidedly unimpressive. For off-grid applications, such as rural electrification of homes, villages, farms, and small industries, reliable and cost effective wind turbines are now available. Their development has run hand-in-hand with that of the larger machines.
