Südwind is preparing to manufacture a 1.8 MW turbine. A prototype will be installed by the end of the year, says Südwind's Peter Bosse. Several sites are being considered, in North Rhine Westfalia, Brandenburg and Saxony Anhalt. The S-70 will use the same basic design as the Südwind 750 kW S46 machine, which runs at variable speed with pitch regulated control, using a double feed asynchronous generator and LM Aeroconstruct blades. Südwind had installed 15 of its S46 750 kW turbine by the end of March. Production is currently running at about one a week. A first S46 machine will be delivered to India as a demonstration plant during the course of the year, says Bosse.
