With the completion of its seventh wind power development in Galicia, Gamesa Energia now has 11 wind plant connected to Spain's national grid, the company reports. The 30 MW Monte Treito plant in the coastal province of Coruña, consisting of 45, 660 kW Gamesa Eólica turbines, cost ESP 4.7 billion (EUR 28.7 million) to build. In 1998, Galicia approved Gamesa Energia's strategic plan to install 760 MW of wind turbines in the region. Monte Treito brings Gamesa's regional contribution to 200 MW. Monte Treito brings Gamesa's installed capacity in the region to 169 MW. It has another 72 MW now building. Galicia's total installed wind capacity is 685 MW, with 248 MW developed in 2000. Gamesa estimates that the new plant will meet the average consumption requirements of 32,000 households.
