Finnish communities support wind energy
1 June 1994
A public opinion survey conducted by Finland's wind power associations has discovered positive support for wind energy in the communities where wind plant have been erected. The wind plant have attracted tourists and in some areas created jobs during construction. Each community now hosting wind plant is anxious for more to be built and has set aside land for this purpose. In Karlö the erection of wind turbines was co-ordinated with building a new harbour. In Kemi, with three turbines built at the harbour, land has been reserved for a further nine machines. And the town of Björneborg said it was delighted with the number of extra visitors which the wind turbines attracted to its town festival in September last year.
