Queensland project expansion announced
1 April 2000
Queensland electric utility Stanwell Corporation has lodged an application with South Gippsland Shire Council for a wind farm of ten to 12 turbines at Silcock's Hill, near Toora in south-east Victoria. More details will be released when tenders are called for in the form of an "Engineer, Procure and Construct" (EPC) contract. Stanwell selected the site based on wind monitoring data collected by Eastern Energy. Additional monitoring, environmental impact assessment and feasibility studies are in progress or completed. Local public meetings have generated positive feedback with no major concerns raised. The site is on private grazing land that will continue to be used for farming. Retail electricity suppliers have expressed interest in buying the output.
