The Mexican national utility hopes 27 MW of wind plant will be installed in the near future, but it is unable to predict when installation will start. The 27 MW would be added to the 1.57 MW installed by the Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE) at La Venta, Oaxaca, with New World Power Corp and Entec, says CFE's Roberto Cadenas. He also confirms that an independent body was created recently by the national government to regulate independent power producers. Wind proponents have said the move might speed up wind development in Mexico, although clearly last year's peso devaluation is complicating attempts to invest in the economy.
