Kenetech receives Wang Computer

For "one of the most precipitous falls of all time" Kenetech Corp has been selected by the Oakland Tribune newspaper for its year-end "Wang Computer" award. The tongue-in-cheek award, one of 13 handed out by the paper, refers to a computer company known for its sudden decline. Kenetech's booby prize -- or "losers" award in the words of the newspaper -- was perhaps not the worst it could have received. Others awards presented include a Corporate Gluttony Award, a Richard Nixon Ethics award and a John D. Rockefeller monopoly award. Oakland, California, is the location of the US Bankruptcy Court where Kenetech Windpower Inc filed for bankruptcy protection on June 20 after defaulting on a $100 million note.
