A 50 kW wind turbine is being shipped to Morocco this autumn for use on a greenhouse farm owned by the King of Morocco. The machine is being shipped by Atlantic Orient Corp (AOC), a small wind turbine manufacturing company in the US. The AOC 15/50 turbine, developed under the US Department of Energy's Advanced Wind Turbine Programme, will probably be shipped in late October or early November, says AOC's Jim Carter. AOC is also developing a system to interconnect two diesel generators at either end of the farm with the 15/50, he says. AOC hopes to ship the system in late August or early September. The wind turbine should reduce the cost of electricity at the farm from $0.50 to $0.10/kWh, says the company.
