Former Soviet radar station turns wind farm
1 May 1999
Ten AN Bonus 1 MW wind turbines are being installed on a former Soviet radar station in Uplingen-Bullenberg in the Land of Saxony-Anhalt. Work began in February and will continue for a year as the site is restructured, with the last units expected to go in the ground next spring, reports developer AN Windenergie. The machines are expected to generate some 20 million kWh per year, says AN Windenergie. Capital of DEM 24 million (EUR 12.3 million) was raised by the operators of the wind station, Wincono of Brunsbüttel, and local limited partnership Burgerwind vor Ort.
