Hawaii Electric Light Co says it will buy 3 MW of power for the next 15 years from a $5.28 million project being developed by Hawi Renewable Development. The developer will install eight Vestas 660 kW wind turbines at Upolu Point near Hawi on the northernmost point of the island of Hawaii, which is the largest, but also one of the least populated of the Hawaiian Islands. If Hawaii's Public Utility Commission approves the deal, the project could be in service within six to eight months.
