Gamesa starts building 20 MW wind plant on Sardinia

Spain's Gamesa has started building work on the 20 MW Florines wind plant on Sardinia, the company's first outside Spain. The plant will also mark the first large scale installation of Gamesa's 2 MW machine since its split from Vestas. The Florines plant is due online by the end of the year. Gamesa Energía, the project developer, says it has 200 MW under development in Italy -- all with grid connection lined up -- and expects to start construction on several further projects on the island and the mainland this year. Gamesa describes Florines as a "milestone in the company's internationalisation strategy." Other countries where Gamesa Energía is particularly active are UK, US, Portugal, Greece and France.
