£30.000 - £40.000 PER APPLICATION

The cost to developers of preparing bids for renewable energy schemes under the latest round of the Non-Fossil Fuel Obligation (NFFO-3) averaged around £30,000-£40,000 for each application, says the Association of Independent Electricity Producers. The AIEP's David Porter stresses this figure comes from a "rough and ready survey" of its members, but the figure was corroborated by at least one developer. With 520 final bids offered for NFFO contracts and a further 190 schemes submitted for contracts in the SRO -- Scotland's first renewables order -- the total cost of bids for the latest round of renewable energy support is likely to be in excess of £21 million.
