A group of 40 neighbours to wind turbines in Denmark have formed an organisation, "Neighbours to Wind Turbines" to protest about getting "a 70 metre tall wind turbine in the back yard." Such large turbines, the group argues, should be placed farther from human neighbours than the current 250-300 metre limit. This marks the second time in the last 20 years that a "Not in my backyard"-NIMBY-group has been organised in Denmark. The earlier organisation, just like the current one, received a great deal of media attention at its start, but has not been heard of since. In the late 1980s, the government charted all cases of neighbourly protest, finding that of 3000 wind turbines in operation at the time, 20 had received complaints regarding their proximity to neighbours. Of these, ten were found to be too close and were moved.
