Construction of the 25.5 MW Hachiryu wind farm at Mitanemachi, on the shore of the Sea of Japan in Akita Prefecture, is complete. Operation began on October 1, says Hideki Takagi of operator Mwinds, in Tokyo, a subsidiary of leading engineering company Meiden. The plant comprises 17, 1.5 MW turbines from German manufacturer Repower. All output is sold to Tohoku Electric Power. Mwinds has one other wind plant in operation, a 3 MW facility at Choshi Shiosai in Choshi City, Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo.
