With the British, Canadian and offshore wind lobbies all staging major events in October, our focus this month is split three ways. In Britain, the Renewables Obligation is under increasingly severe attack for failing to give value (page 27-29), although there is good news in the willingness of the Ministry of Defence to try and work around its objections to wind stations (photo and pages 57-59). In Canada, the industry warns that handcuffing it too tightly to specific locations for manufacture of components is putting Quebec's aims for another 2000 MW in danger, even though Hydro Quebec is ready to lead the world (pages 64-66). Offshore, it is still Scandinavia showing the way, possibly for a good while yet (pages 60-62).
