US pitch control firm acquires Scottish company Aicon

MLS, a small American company which designs and manufactures pitch control systems and drives, is acquiring Scottish start-up company Aicon Engineering. Aicon's five staff are involved in turbine modelling, simulation, load calculations, and controls analysis and design and "provides the necessary know-how to take pitch control to the next level," says MLS. The company currently employs around 60 people at facilities near Houston, Texas, and in Madrid, Spain. It is considering expanding into Germany. The biggest MLS customer to date is American turbine manufacturer Clipper, which is traded on the Alternative Investment Market of the London Stock Exchange. Clipper is developing offshore wind turbine technology in northern England.
