German developer WPD in takeover of small developer
1 July 2006
German wind developer and financer WPD, based in Bremen, has acquired smaller developer Enersys Gesellschaft für Regenerative Energien of Bietigheim-Bissingen. The companies say the 100% takeover is "the logical consequence of a joint expansion course on which the firms launched two years ago." They initially co-operated on a couple of wind farms in Germany, followed by collaboration on the 11.2 MW Trtar-Krtolin project, now under construction in Croatia. Then came a joint venture, WE2, focusing on eastern Europe. WPD has 100 employees and branches in Magdeburg, Stockholm and London. It has developed more than 80 wind farms with a combined capacity of 890 MW and an investment value of EUR 1.2 billion. WPD is also responsible for the commercial and technical management of another 110 wind farms with a total capacity of 1400 MW. Enersys has developed and installed 275 MW and has representations in Croatia, France, Spain, Bulgaria, Hungary, Czech Republic and Romania.
