B9 to operate 15 MW at Barnesmore
1 June 1997
Ireland's largest wind farm, at present under construction at Barnesmore in Donegal, is to be operated by Northern Ireland-based B9 Energy. The 15 MW wind farm -- of 25 Vestas 600 kW turbines -- is expected to be completed in the summer. Its owner, ScottishPower, won a 15 year power purchase contract for Barnesmore in Ireland's first Alternative Energy Requirement in 1994. B9 already operates ScottishPower's three operational wind farms in Northern Ireland. B9 has also won a contract to operate Zond's 5 MW wind farm at Owenreagh in Strabane, Northern Ireland. The ten Zond 550 kW turbines were installed under Northern Ireland's first round of the non-fossil fuel obligation. B9 now manages five of the province's six wind farms
