Pacific Hydro has selected NEG Micon as the preferred supplier for the 120 MW Portland Wind Energy Project. The selection is part of a "frame agreement" for 400 wind turbines. NEG Micon says it will supply 1.5 MW machines. The permit for the Portland project is dependent on a commitment to local manufacture of the turbines. Up to 90% of the turbines will be made in Australia, which "creates an opportunity for the state of Victoria to become the wind turbine manufacturing centre for Australian and South East Asian markets," says Pacific Hydro's Roy Adair.
