Windpower 2005 was not only the largest conference ever hosted by the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), but also the largest exhibition. Compared with last year's event, floor space was 15% larger and the 236 exhibitors represented a 10% increase. New exhibitors included Siemens, which bought Bonus Wind Energy in 2004, and Goldman Sachs, which bought Zilkha Renewable Energy this year. All of the major wind turbine manufacturers supplying to the US were present and this year interest from deeper into the supply chain was evident. "We're seeing a larger number of components exhibits -- transportation companies, bolt manufacturers, torque and wrench folks, construction companies," says Stephen Miner, AWEA's event organiser. Several exhibitors found themselves on the receiving end of job-seeking resumes, with Vestas and Renewable Energy Systems among those dealing with people looking for work.
