Preparing for wind power with country wind atlas

A consortium tasked with researching the development potential for wind power and other renewable energy in Bosnia and Herzegovina is to produce the region's first comprehensive wind atlas and establish a set of laws and standards to govern the wind sector, says Bozidar Matic, president of the country's Academy of Arts and Sciences, one of the consortium partners. Matic says the consortium is applying for financing from the European Commission's fund for science research projects in western southeast Europe. The fund's 2007 allocation is EUR 8 million. The consortium also includes state power utilities, university engineering, science and computer departments, and the Impro Impex Centre for Renewable Energy Sources, based in Mostar.
