An independent developer is considering a 30 MW wind farm in the territory of Otter Tail Power Co in Minnesota, says the utility's Bryan Marlock. Five wind sites are also being monitored in the utility's service territory sufficient to handle 10 MW of wind installation, he says. Even so, Marlock says that wind is unlikely to be developed for the utility's needs before 2000. If the 30 MW plant is developed, the power would likely be wheeled elsewhere. The utility, based in Fergus Falls, serves the western third of Minnesota, including Lake Benton on Buffalo Ridge, the eastern half of North Dakota and a small portion of South Dakota.
