The Climate Technology Initiative (CTI) of Paris has for the first time given its leadership award in an individual category, and it went to Rakesh Bakshi, the director of Indian wind turbine manufacturer Vestas RRB. Bakshi is recognised for his company's initiatives into wind energy and for promoting clean technologies. In the company category, CTI gave top honours to the Indian Renewable Energy Development Association. IREDA was praised for its work in financing and promoting self sustaining investment in energy from renewable sources, as well as energy efficiency, in India. The CTI promotes the objectives of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the awards were presented at the fifth meeting of the convention parties in Bonn in November. It was the first time the CTI awarded "global champions of the environmental cause."
